Wye Juniors Football Club pavilion destroyed in fire

A football club's pavilion has been destroyed by a fire in the early hours of this morning.

Crews were called to Wye, near Ashford, after the clubhouse went up in flames shortly after 2am.

The pavilion, in Scotton Street off Coldharbour Lane, is used by a number of teams associated with Wye Juniors Football Club.

Pictures this morning show the scale of the damage caused.

Crews were called at 2.10am to reports of a blaze in the roof of the single-storey building, a spokesperson said.

Firefighters were at the scene tackling the flames for more than three hours, with nearby homes reportedly losing power as a result of the incident.

No one was hurt, and the cause of the fire is yet to be established.

A spokesperson for the club said: "We are extremely saddended to inform that the children's football pavilion has been destroyed in a fire.

"We don't have all the details yet but in the meantime please stay out of the field for the moment. It is currently a crime scene.

"An enormous thank you to the member of the public who phoned the fire brigade in the early hours of this morning."
