Traffic held after crash on M20 between Maidstone and Ashford

There were severe delays on the M20 following a crash, while a second accident closed a detour route on the A20.

Emergency services were called to the coast-bound carriageway between Junction 8 for Maidstone and Junction 9 at Ashford.

The road was blocked and motorists were left at a standstill following the collision between two vehicles.

The outside lane of the London-bound carriageway was also closed due to debris on the road.

All lanes have since reopened, and traffic is flowing again after some time, after queues stretched back for more than four miles on the coast-bound carriageway.

It is thought that several vehicles that had been held due to the crash broke down and prevented traffic from easing for some time.

The A20, which serves as an alternative route for anyone hoping to avoid the M20, was also closed in both directions near Harriatsham after an accident but has since reopened.
