Trains between Maidstone East and Ashford International cancelled until Monday after landslip

A rail line will remain closed until Monday after a landslip damaged the side of a train and threw rocks and soil across the tracks.

Passengers are being forced to rethink their journeys following the rockfall at Bearsted between Maidstone East and Ashford International.

Southeastern says no trains are running on the line, which will remain blocked over the weekend but is expected to reopen in the early hours of Monday.

Bosses say a service will run today between Victoria and Maidstone East, but with replacement buses running between Maidstone East and Ashford International.

Passengers are being allowed to use their tickets on the Stagecoach bus route 10X between Maidstone and Ashford.

Yesterday, Southeastern said the 12:55pm service from Victoria to Ashford International was damaged by the rockfall from the landslip and was left unable to move.

Passengers were transferred to another train and taken back to Maidstone East where they were able to continue their journey.
