Lorry blocks access to Sainsbury's Bybrook supermarket in Simone Weil Avenue, Ashford

An accident involving a car and lorry caused delays and blocked access to a supermarket in Ashford.

Emergency services were called to Simone Weil Avenue at around 10am, after the incident caused fuel to spill from the lorry.

The large vehicle obstructed part of the road leading to Sainsbury's Bybrook supermarket and Warren Retail Park for several hours and caused traffic delays in the area.

Motorists travelling from Canterbury Road were not be able to access the supermarket or retail park.

Instead, they had to make a U-turn at Drovers roundabout to reach the premises.

No injuries were reported.

A police spokeswoman said: "We were called just before 10am on Wednesday 9 October 2019 to a report of a collision involving a car and a lorry.

"Officers attended Simone Weil Avenue in Ashford with Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

"The road was closed in order for highways officers to clear up a fuel spillage but was reopened by 2.40pm."
