Mystery bang heard by Ashford residents near Crooksfoot Tesco

Residents across Ashford were left shocked after a loud, mysterious bang this afternoon.

The noise was heard near Crooksfoot Tesco shortly after 12.45pm.

It was captured by Danika Hawkins on her doorbell camera in the Hinxhill Park estate, opposite the supermarket.

The 22-year-old told KentOnline: “I was very shocked.

“It was so loud it woke one of my children up from their nap.

“I thought I’d check to see if my doorbell caught anything, and luckily the postman drove past as it happened, but I still have no idea what it was.

“It was as if it happened right outside my house, but nothing has happened on the estate as far as I know.

“I can’t seem to make sense of what could have been so loud.”

The source of the bang remains unknown, however, residents on social media have come up with several theories.

One said the Ministry of Defence (MoD) had been called to the discovery of ammunition in Willesborough this morning and may have carried out a controlled explosion.

The MoD has been contacted for information.

Others say a car crash on the A20 in Smeeth was responsible, while some have suggested a military airshow today in Sellinge may have caused the noise.
