Part of the motorway was later sealed off between Junction 8 near Maidstone and Junction 9 in Ashford in order for the air ambulance to attend.

Paramedics were also at the scene.

A police spokesman has confirmed the woman has been taken to hospital and that officers are investigating to establish the circumstances of the incident.

Kent County Council's highways team is recommending motorists seek alternative routes via the A20.
