A2070 in Ashford open today after bridge demolition

A busy dual carriageway in Ashford has reopened ahead of schedule.

Highways England confirmed this morning that the A2070 reopened at 3am - about an hour before expected.

The road was shut from 4am on Saturday for the demolition of Church Road footbridge, which was removed as part of a £104 million project to build a new junction on the M20.

It was closed between the junction with Barrey Road and the M20, with a diversion in place through Ashford town centre.

Although the road is now open, lane closures and a 40mph speed limit are due to remain in place until the work is finished in 2019.
