Margate and Fleet to clash in cup final

Margate 5 Ashford 0

MARGATE will meet Gravesend and Northfleet in the final of the BOSE Kent Senior Cup after comfortably disposing of Ashford at Hartsdown last night.

Chris Kinnear'ss side were well below full strength for the semi-final, but still possessed too much power for their Dr Martens League opponents, who who never really troubled Gate keeper Lee Turner.

There was concern for Kinnear with first-half injuries to Simon Beard (foot) and Graham Porter (calf) but the departure of the latter did at least give long-term casualty John Keister a chance for his first competitive action since September.

Even without the likes of Iain O'Connell, Lee Williams and Akpo Sodje, Margate dominated and they broke the deadlock on 28 minutes when Mark Munday tapped home after Ashford had failed to deal with Terry McFlynn's corner.

Just before half time the lead was doubled as Ashford keeper John Whitehouse was only able to parry McFlynn's shot and Gareth Graham clipped home the rebound.

Munday claimed his second goal of the night on 69 minutes when he was left unmarked to head home Paul Lamb's free-kick and the Gate confirm ed then their superiority with two more goals in the final nine minutes.

Goal number four was prompted by Keister, and finished by Mc Flynn, who knocked in Steve Hafner's right wing c entre, and in the final minute McFlynn added a second, this time lobbing home after going through one-on-one.

The final will be played on Bank Holiday, Monday, May 6, with Margate winning the right to host the game at Hartsdown on the toss of a coin.
