There are reported to have been two ambulances at the scene and traffic was being held while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Highways England said at 7pm that all lanes have reopend but there were still severe delays, with nine miles of tailbacks stretching and delays of over an hour.

The road was blocked earlier to allow the emergency services to attend and also for recovery work.

There is a broken down car in the queues adding to the delays.

The M20 is due to close between Ashford and Maidstone for the second night running tonight while the Operation Brock contraflow is brought back for the summer holidays.

The coast-bound carriageway is due to be shut from 8pm until 6am tomorrow from Junction 7 in Maidstone to Junction 9 while the changes are made.
