Elwick Road in Ashford reopens after emergency repairs by SGN following gas leak outside County Square Shopping Centre and The Ashford Cinema

Part of a town centre ring-road has reopened after a week of traffic misery for drivers.

Workers from SGN shut the westbound stretch of Elwick Road in Ashford last Tuesday (January 21).

The urgent repairs had to be carried out following a gas leak just outside County Square Shopping Centre.

The issue resulted in the route shutting from the traffic light-controlled crossing outside The Ashford Cinema to The Bolt roundabout near West Street.

Following the move, drivers were left facing heavy delays with many spotted turning around at the closure sign.

It meant they had to head back towards Ashford International and travel along either Station Road or Victoria Road to get through the town centre.

But now, more than a week later, the road has reopened.

SGN engineers have repaired the affected pipe and identified the source of another leak near to Elwick Road’s junction with Godinton Road.
