Pair quizzed over 'racially motivated' stabbing

TWO men have been arrested in connection with an assault and robbery that police believe may have been racially motivated.

The attack on Mohammed Nurujjamal, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi man, happened at around 8.10pm on Wednesday in Bank Street, Ashford.

The victim, who lives in Bank Street, underwent surgery for stab wounds at William Harvey Hospital in the town and is now said to be in a stable condition.

The men being questioned by police are a 28-year-old local man and a 25-year-old man from Manchester. They were arrested on Friday.

DCI Paul Fotheringham, of Ashford Police, said: "We are not ruling out the possibility that this serious assault was racially motivated."
