A former parish council clerk has been warned he could be facing a jail sentence for a fraud involving more than £83,000.

Gary Willard admitted fraud by abuse of position at Rolvenden Parish Council, near Cranbrook.

Maidstone Crown Court heard he transferred £86,404 into his account while financial officer between May 1, 2016 and November 25, 2017.

Prosecutor Bridget Todd said the 52-year-old’s basis of plea was not accepted. Sentence was, therefore, adjourned to April 17 when he will be required to give evidence.

Judge Philip Statman told Willard, who became the council clerk in April 2016: “No indication is being given as to any disposal in regard to this case. You must appreciate that while on bail you should put your personal affairs in order.”
