Part of County Square shopping centre in Ashford still closed after Storm Eunice damage

Part of the County Square shopping centre in Ashford is set to remain shut for the next few days after the roof was damaged during Storm Eunice.

The On Pizza takeaway and ManCave barbers remain out of bounds four days after falling debris narrowly avoided shoppers at the Tufton Street entrance.

Centre chiefs have fenced off the area and shoppers are being directed to the site's other entrances, which have now all reopened.

On its Facebook page, On Pizza said it is "most likely we won't open for the next few days".

The takeaway – which filled the former Warren's Bakery unit last year – is still open for deliveries.

The managers of ManCave say they "can only apologise" for the disruption as "it really does mess us up".

"Unfortunately due to the ongoing roof issues in Tufton Walk directly outside our shop, we have been instructed by County Square that it is unsafe for us to open today," they said.

"Hopefully we will have an update soon."

On Friday, Lucy Currie was inside the shopping mall with her partner and daughter as the roof fell in.

“I was in Costa when the glass ceiling fell and smashed outside ManCave,” she said.

"We got evacuated out very swiftly by security.”

The 30-year-old said two boys had a very close call.

“It was terrifying but security reacted perfectly - the staff were very efficient,” she said.

After evacuating, Miss Currie, who was left shaken by the incident, got a taxi home with her family.

In a statement last week, County Square retail scheme director Stacey Bell confirmed no one was injured.

KentOnline has approached the shopping centre for a comment today, but is yet to receive a response.

Elsewhere in Ashford, masonry fell from a block of flats on Repton Park and the Henwood Garage lost an entire wall amid a number of incidents in the town.
