Ashford explosion: People return home after blast in Mill View in Ashford

People living near an explosion in Ashford have been allowed to return home today.

The blast happened shortly before 8am yesterday in Mill View and destroyed one house and caused serious damage to the neighbouring homes.

Police are back at the scene today working with the fire service to carry out investigations.

The cause is not yet known but it is not being treated as suspicious.

Seven people were taken to hospital yesterday.

Two are still receiving treatment in London and their condition is described as serious, say police.

Those living in nearby houses which have not been damaged in the blast have now been able to return to their homes.

Footage from a doorbell camera caught the moment the explosion happened in the roof.

Neighbour Michelle King rushed out to see what had happened and said it sounded like a bus had gone through her home.

Two of the first at the scene were a father and son who saved the lives of three people caught in the wreckage.
