A pet shop is to fill an empty unit on an industrial estate in Ashford.

Pets Corner, which currently has a store inside Longacres Bybrook Barn garden centre, is taking the former HSS Hire site on Mace Industrial Estate.

The site, close to KwikFit, will become home to the company's first dog groomers in Kent.

Area manager Hannah Talbutt says the new unit is giving the company – which has six sites in the south east – huge potential for growth.

"It is much larger and we're expanding a lot," she said.

"A lot of our customers are constantly asking for local groomers so it should be good."

The company is set to close its Bybrook Barn site in late August.

"The new unit is all quite different and exciting for the staff moving from Bybrook," Ms Talbutt added.

"The addition of the dog groomers – called Dogwood – is something we don't physically have the ability to do in the garden centre unit."

Ms Talbutt says the size of the unit could allow the company to run a vets from the site in the future.

"There's a lot more room for growth, especially when you do have the addition of a groomer and eventually a vets as well," she said.

The decision to move to a standalone unit comes as the lease at the garden centre is coming to an end, encouraging the company to look for an alternative.

Ms Talbutt says the firm is trying to 'branch out into more standalone units'.

"We're closing down the Bybrook site at the end of August and will run both stores alongside each other while we're transitioning over," she added.

The Mace Lane store will open on Friday, August 12 and the Bybrook Barn site is expected to close on Sunday, August 31.
