A20 Barrow Hill in Sellindge shut after car crashes into telegraph pole

A busy route was closed after a car crashed into an electrical pole which has left cables damaged and power to homes cut off.

Emergency services were called to the A20 Barrow Hill in Sellindge this morning after the collision.

It is understood a car hit the pole and there were reports of fallen cables in the road.

Electrical engineers have been called to the scene to repair the damage and investigate the problem.

Information on the UK Power Networks website suggests the issue will be fixed and power restored at about 3pm today.

A statement relating to the incident says: “We may be able to get some customers on sooner.

“The timeframe may change and be extended depending on our investigations and the work involved to resolve the issue.”

A motorbike reportedly skidded off the road at the same time.

“We were called following a report of a collision between a vehicle and a telegraph pole in Barrow Hill, Sellindge at 6.40am today,” a police spokesman said.

“Officers attended along with UK Power Networks. No serious injuries have been reported.”

The road reopened at about 10am.
