Man's body found in flat in Grampion Close, Ashford, as police launch probe

The body of a man in his 40s has been found in a flat in Ashford.

Police are continuing to stand guard in Grampion Close more than 24 hours after they were first called.

A block of flats and footpath have been cordoned off in Ashford

They say the death is currently being treated as unexplained and inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.

Part of a footpath between Grampion Close and Canterbury Road remains taped off and two officers are standing by the cordon.

This morning, a neighbour told KentOnline how a private ambulance arrived late yesterday evening.

"I first knew something had happened when I saw three paramedics and two police officers outside the flat," she said.

"As the day progressed, the paramedics left but more officers including a forensic team turned up.

"That's when I realised something quite bad had happened."

Grampion Close is on the Quantock Drive estate and can be accessed via a footpath off Canterbury Road.

"They didn't tape off the flat and the footpath until the afternoon," the neighbour added.

"It's really quiet around here – we hear the odd argument but that's from people passing through as quite a lot of people use the footpath to get to Sainsbury's.

"It's a nice quiet area and all of the neighbours keep themselves to themselves."

Another witness said police guarded the property overnight and were focusing on the entrance hallway as part of their investigation.

Officers were first called at about 12.25pm on Sunday.
