Fire crews tackle two fires in Maytham Road, Rolvenden and in Osborne Road, Ashford today

Railway staff helped firefighters extinguish a blaze today in Rolvenden.

Fire crews were called to Maytham Road at 2.15pm to a report two acres of stubble and undergrowth were alight.

Staff from the Kent & East Sussex Railway helped the crews by using beaters to put out fires in trackside vegetation.

The firefighters used a hose reel, beaters and flex packs to extinguish the flames.

They were at the scene for three-quarters of an hour.

Firefighters also tackled a shed fire in Osborne Road, Ashford, this afternoon.

They arrived at the property at 4pm, within minutes of the 999 call, and discovered a garden shed was well alight.

They successfully extinguished the blaze by 4.11pm and spent a further 30 minutes damping down and turning over.
