Sausage and Cider Festival set to return to Victoria Park, Ashford next summer

A new sausage and cider festival which was held for the first time at the weekend is set to return to Ashford next summer.

Organisers are hoping to host the festival in Victoria Park again following a successful turn-out over the two-day programme.

Revellers of all ages turned out to sample street foods and a selection of sausages, as well as enjoying a cider and live music under the sun.

The event - which included live performances from Wrong Jovi and Abba Stars UK - ran from 10am to 9pm on Saturday and 11am to 7pm on Sunday.

Activities including fairground rides and face painting were on offer, with market stalls groceries, hand-crafted furniture and cheese also available.

Organiser Paul Kennedy, from Zoom Events, said: "It was a good turn-out, we were hoping for more visitors but it was our first event.

"Most of the feedback was positive and the music element seemed to work really well.

"There were enough sausages, we probably could have done with more cider.

"The comments were that it was a safe event, despite it taking place in a park which doesn't have the best reputation.

"People said the quality of the music was strong, but that it could've been louder, although we played it safe because of Ashford Borough Council (ABC)."

Next year, Mr Kennedy says he plans to make the online tickets more affordable.

He added: "The tickets were probably overpriced if you bought them on the day.

"It was £10 for adults and £3 for children if you got them on the door.

"There is absolute reason to believe we could build on it, but it depends how talks go with ABC.

"We will be hoping to return next year. We will build on the feedback and we will look at making ticket prices for advance sales very attractive.

"If we sell 2,000 tickets at £5, it is much better for us than not selling any at £10.

"From a personal point of view, I was most impressed by the visitors in terms of behaviour and enthusiasm for the event.

"We had no problems with waste control and behaviour, it was a very pleasant day."

More photographs of the day will be available in the Kentish Express on Thursday.
