Scott Porter gave his players a verbal dressing down at the weekend and was thrilled to see them respond by hammering Whitstable on Tuesday.
Hythe bounced back from Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat to lowly Burgess Hill in Ryman League Division 1 South with a thumping victory against Whitstable as Dave Cook, Nick Barnes, Brendon Cass and Jimmy Dryden all netted at Reachfields in a 4-0 win.
The FA Cup is back on the menu this weekend and Hythe boss Porter believes the talking has done the trick.
Porter (pictured) said: "It was so frustrating to look back on Saturday because on Tuesday we showed just what we can do. I know how good we are and we had a long chat after the Burgess Hill game.
"I told a few people some home truths and what we expect of them.
"We put a few things right on Tuesday and showed what we can do by performing at a good tempo and with pace. The players got about and showed real quality with the goals."
Hythe travel to Middlesex for their FA Cup qualifier against Southern League Central Division strugglers North Greenford United.
"We have a great opportunity to make the third qualifying round and we’ve missed the big boys but you never know," said Porter.
