Person hit by train as emergency services cordon off St Dunstan’s Street in Canterbury next to Sainsbury’s

Emergency services were called to a railway line after a person was hit by a train this afternoon.

The incident happened between Wye, near Ashford, and Minster stations.

Operator Southeastern said on X at 2.25pm it had received reports a person had been hit, and in an update shortly before 4.10pm added: “Emergency services still on site between Minster and Wye following a person being hit by a train.

“No trains between Ashford and Ramsgate via Canterbury.

“Replacement buses in operation - you can use your ticket on local Stagecoach buses.”

A massive emergency response is taking place at St Dunstan’s Level Crossing, next to Canterbury West station.

Pictures sent to KentOnline show four police vehicles next to Sainsbury’s Local.

Meanwhile, Kent Fire and Rescue has confirmed two fire engines attended and have since departed the scene.

In a further update at 6.15pm, Southeastern said the train involved in the incident had now moved and staff would examine the track to allow trains to travel on the line.

The first train to make the journey was expected to be the 18.42 Ramsgate - Charing Cross service.

British Transport Police and paramedics have been approached for more information.
