Southeastern says the passengers have now been helped from the carriages, while engineers are on-site checking the damage.

London-bound services between Maidstone East and Ashford were suspended, but at about 6.15pm Southeastern said the tree had been cleared and the 18.05 Ashford-Victoria would be the first London-bound service heading up Maidstone East line, calling all stations to Otford.

Elsewhere in Kent, another large tree has fallen on the line at Chilham.

Southeastern says no trains are running coast-bound from Ashford toward Ramsgate via Canterbury West, although London-bound services are still running.

Rail replacement buses are running between Ashford and Canterbury West.

A tree also fell on the line at Sandling near Maidstone at about 6.15pm. It was cleared in about 30 minutes.

A tree also fell on the line at Albany Park earlier today, but has now been cleared.
