Delays on A20 in Hythe, Folkestone and near Ashford as Dover border problems continue

Drivers are facing "bedlam" on the A20 as the situation on Kent's roads worsens.

Traffic is at a near standstill around Hythe, with delays stretching all the way back to Mersham near Ashford.

Queues are lengthening as the road struggles to deal with the overflow of traffic from the M20 closure.

The motorway is still shut from Junction 10a to Junction 12 on the coastbound carriageway to allow for Operation Stack.

This has resulted in chaotic scenes on alternative routes, with lorries the A20 for miles at a time.

One resident described the situation as "an absolute nightmare".

She said: "I was going from Ashford on the A20 because I couldn't get onto the M20, and I didn't even make it into Sellindge when the traffic hit a standstill.

"I turned around and went down a lane that took me through Lympne, and went through to Junction 11 - it's all backed up, and if you get anywhere near you can see that police are turning people away there.

"It's total bedlam out there, an absolute nightmare. I thought it was bad enough with the M20 before but we clearly didn't know when were were lucky!

"There are just lines of lorries, and people are completely stuck there. I had to turn round, I don't know when they're going to release that traffic."
