Ashford: Traffic lights out on M20 Junction 10 causes severe delays

Drivers were stuck in traffic for up to two hours after traffic lights failed on a busy junction.

Traffic built up on the M20 Junction 10 roundabout throughout the morning after the lights at the westbound approach (Ashford South) stopped working.

Kent County Council (KCC) say the traffic lights were fixed at around 2pm after Highways England were sent to the scene to resolve the issue.

A heavy build-up of traffic on the roundabout made it difficult for some people to reach the William Harvey Hospital.

One road user said: "I've just had an appointment at the William Harvey Hospital, it's having a knock on effect with staff and patients."

The incident also caused delays on bus services, particularly the C line bus route between the town centre and hospital.

A Stagecoach spokesman said: "We are experiencing some problems in Ashford today.

"Our operations manager has been in contact with Highways England about the situation with the traffic lights and they have confirmed that there is an officer at the scene.

"It is affecting route C between town centre and the hospital and we will put extra buses on the route to try and help."
