Train and lorry collide at level crossing

A LORRY has hit a nuclear train on Romney Marsh this morning. The empty flask was heading from Sellafield to Dungeness A Power Station when it collided with a level crossing on the A259 between Brookland and Brenzett just after 8.30am.

Police, firefighters and experts from Dungeness are at the scene and an investigation has been launched. No one has been hurt.

Spokesman Robin Thornton: "From all accounts it appears to be a low speed impact. A procedure is in place for this type of incident. But during a recent test, a train was crashed into a flask at 100mph. The locomotive was completely destroyed but the flask was not damaged."

Police said there were were long delays around the area.
