Passengers travelling from Ramsgate to St Pancras stuck near Ashford International after pigeon hits pantograph

Rail commuters were stuck on a train for more than an hour after a large pigeon hit the pantograph.

Passengers in North Kent travelling on the 9.35am train from Ramsgate to London St Pancras were stuck inside the train for 90 minutes this morning, after the train broke down near to Ashford International Station.

The failure was caused by a large pigeon hitting the pantograph - the system which supplies the train with power from the overhead power supply.

A second train was dispatched to the broken down vehicle and the train was taken to Ashford Intentional - where passengers were greeted by Southeastern staff and bottled water.

It took around 90 minutes to rescue the train and passengers.

Commuters complaining of "hot conditions" inside the train voiced their concerns on social media.
