A group of Travellers have set up on a patch of land next to a parade of shops, bringing a horse with them.
Several caravans are currently on a green in Loudon Way, Ashford, behind the Repton Park estate.
The group can be seen opposite Springwood Drive just a few metres from Jasmine Chinese takeaway.
Pictures show at least four vehicles, including one parked behind a tree, and a small hut structure.
One resident living close to the group said: “It would appear we have new neighbours on the green at Loudon Way backing onto Repton.
“Having experienced traveller settlements in a previous location I don’t hold out hope for a quick resolution.”
However, Ashford Borough Council (ABC) says plans are underway for the group to be moved.
A spokeswoman said: “We are aware of the concerns raised by residents regarding the presence of travellers on land at London Way, Godinton.
“As the land is privately owned, the responsibility for managing the situation lies with the landowner.
“However, we are in contact with both the landowner and local residents to offer support where appropriate.”
KentOnline has asked ABC who the plot’s landowner is.

It is not the first time a group has been reported in Kent in recent days.
Yesterday, another unauthorised Traveller pitch was reported at a recreation ground.
Caravans were spotted on the green behind the playground at Jackson's play area in Rochester.
