Two villages were without power following a fault on an overhead line.

At its peak, 991 properties suffered outages from 8.18am this morning in Aldington, Bonnington and the surrounding areas - even encroaching on the outskirts of Ashford.

Engineers investigated the issue, which was described as "a high voltage overhead electricity line fault".

All homes and businesses have had their electricity return after UK Power Network fixed the problem at 1.59pm.

Outages were experienced as far afield as Ruckinge, Postling and Old Romney.

Full completion of the repair work was scheduled for between 2.30pm and 3.30pm, with generators being brought in as a temporary power supply.

At 9.06am, a spokesman for UK Power Network said: "We've remotely diverted electricity around the faulty part of the network, restoring power to 821 properties.

"This leaves 170 properties affected by the overhead cable fault."

Engineers continued to work at the site and by 10.30am had reinstated a further 87 supplies, leaving 83 properties without power.

The issue was fixed at 1.59pm, when all effected properties got their power back.
