Woman died in tragedy on M20 near Junction 9 for Ashford

Police have confirmed a woman in her 20s died after being struck by a lorry on the M20.

Officers were called to the motorway at Ashford shortly after 1pm yesterday following a “serious collision” near Junction 9, under the A28 Canterbury Road bridge in Kennington.

It was reported someone had fallen from the bridge into the path of a vehicle.

Police have since confirmed a woman tragically died at the scene, with her family informed.

The coastbound carriageway between Junction 8 for Maidstone and Junction 10 for Ashford remained shut for hours before reopening at 9.30pm alongside the A28 Canterbury Road bridge.

The London-bound route was initially closed by police, but reopened within an hour.

A police spokesperson told KentOnline: “Kent Police was called to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a lorry near Junction 9 of the M20 coast-bound at Ashford shortly before 1pm on January 23.

“Emergency services attended and the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of a woman in her twenties have been informed. Officers are preparing a report for the coroner.”
