Teenager Amos wins South Region Schools title as good start to the new season continues

Nicole Amos won the English Schools South Region Girls’ Championship in Berkshire last week.

The 14-year-old who lives in Kennington, and a pupil at Highworth, Grammar School, produced the best score of the day – gross 79 – on a challenging course at Mill Ride Golf Club in Bracknell.

Darcie Smith from Chart Hills finished third and Nicola Smith from Sittingbourne was sixth. The trio won the team event for Kent.

A member of the England Girls’ under-16 South East squad, Nicole has recently reduced her handicap to four and earned a call-up to the Kent Ladies’ squad to play in County Week at Worthing, starting on Monday, June 22.

It means she misses out on joining Darcie and Nicola in representing the South of England in the English Schools National Championships Finals at Peterborough on the same day.

Two days before her individual and team success at Bracknell, Nicole was runner-up in the Kent Girls Championship at Walmer & Kingsdown GC.

She finished one shot behind winner Lacey Clark, of West Kent.

Nicole started her season by winning the Kent Schools under-18 Scratch Championship, and finished runner-up in the Champion of Champions event at Littlestone.
