Jack Delo is excited about his return to Winch’s Field and wants to prove he’s a better keeper than when he left.

Delo, the cousin of new boss Sam Denly, returns to Bay after five years and more than 200 appearances at Folkestone Invicta.

The 27-year-old previously played for Bay in 2007/08 before a short spell at Ramsgate.

Delo said: “I am excited about going back. Sam is an honest man and told me what he wanted to do at Herne Bay.

“It was probably the most difficult decision I have had to make in football, Folkestone are a top team and Neil Cugley’s a top manager. I have been there a long time and we’ve had some ups and downs, promotions and relegations, but I’ve enjoyed it.

“If it wasn’s Sam coming in for me I couldn’t see myself leaving, but when you’re talking family, you can’t turn it down.”

He added: “When I first came in at Bay I was young and jumping from youth team football to men’s football. I was probably a little but immature, goalkeeper-wise, but my time at Folkestone and Cugley in particular have really helped me.

“I’ve always had doubters but I hope I can show everyone I have matured and grown-up since I was last here.”

Invicta boss Neil Cugley said: "Jack did us proud and has been good for us. When he arrived, he was short on confidence and at a low ebb, but the move did him a world of good. We wish him all the best and move on."
