They can look forward to a fifth successive season at Step 5 after a job well done in trying circumstances.

A mid-season surge up the table moved Kennington away from danger but they were dragged back into a relegation scrap after losing a number of important players.

Rajan Sahni joined VCD, Zak Hammond and Bradley Walledge were recalled by Deal and Folkestone respectively, while Finn Dent suffered an ACL knee injury.

“I’m absolutely delighted to get ourselves over the line,” said Scorer. “It's exactly what we deserved.

“We've had dips at the wrong times but we also had a great mid-season that, in truth, was probably what's kept us up.

“Full credit to the boys because their attitude and dedication throughout the whole season has been phenomenal.

“People could have quite easily jumped ship and looked for a club that weren't really fighting for much, just to be comfortable.

“But the boys fully appreciated what we're trying to do and continuing to stay at this level, which in itself is a remarkable achievement.

“The fact we continue to do that year upon year with limited resources, limited finances, it's full credit to everyone involved with the club.”

Kennington were the lowest scorers in the division with 43 goals in 38 league games.

On the flipside, they had the best defensive record in the bottom eight, with 64 conceded.

“We now have the opportunity to sit down and reflect on things that haven't gone particularly well this season,” said Scorer.

“I think it's quite obvious that being the lowest scorers has been key to us not perhaps being where we wanted to be.

“Defensively, our record speaks for itself but when you're the lowest scorers, unfortunately, you put yourselves in a bit of trouble.

“That's something we know we need to improve on.

“We're obviously going to look to strengthen that area over the summer.

“We'll also do a lot of work in that respect throughout pre-season.

“We've just got to assess how much of a rebuild it's going to be because each year we have a handful of players that obviously stand out and do quite well, and no doubt we'll have offers over the next sort of five or six weeks.

“We've already got our own ideas of what we want to do and players we want to potentially bring into the club.

“It's been a long, long slog of a season, but I'm absolutely delighted with how it ended.

“I fully appreciate the work that goes into the football club from the committee, the chairman, all the volunteers we have at the club and, most importantly, the players, the boys that give up a lot of time to make the club as special as it is and to keep us where we are.”
