Kennington ready for higher-league Fisher in FA Vase first round

Kennington boss Dan Scorer has been given a helping hand as he plots Fisher’s downfall in the FA Vase.

The sides meet at Homelands in the first round this Saturday (3pm) with the Ton looking to oust higher-league opponents at this stage for the second year running.

Crowborough were their victims last season and they’re out to claim another SCEFL Premier Division scalp when Fisher come to town.

Scorer has done his homework, helped by other managers.

He said: “I went to watch them with my assistant at AFC Croydon, so we know a little bit about them, and we’ve been helped by one or two managers in the Premier Division who have sent me a few notes.

“It’s nice to have friends and contacts in other leagues and from other sides who can help you out. Hopefully we can reciprocate.”

Division 1 Kennington certainly have previous when it comes to beating Premier Division sides.

As well as Crowborough, they also beat Lordswood and Deal in the Challenge Cup last year and Erith Town in this season’s Vase qualifying rounds.

“Fisher are a completely different style to Erith,” said Scorer.

"They had good players in certain areas and out wide they were a threat.

"That’s something we’ll work on in training on Thursday night.

"It would be nice to get to the second round and then try and go one step further than last year.”

Kennington maintained their 100 per cent record in Division 1 with first-half goals from Gary Lockyer and Craig Calvert in a 2-0 win over Croydon last weekend.

They lost top spot on Monday night when SC Thamesmead beat Forest Hill 4-1, but Scorer isn't worried about that.

“Thamesmead bumped us off top spot but the league isn’t won in September or October," he said.

“Even with the performances we’ve been putting in, I still think it will go down to the wire this season.

“We just have to concentrate on ourselves and not worry too much about the table.

“It’s nice to look at it when you’re top and winning games but it doesn’t matter at this stage.

“I don’t focus on the table, I focus on our results and the results of the teams we’ve got coming up.”
