Kennington manager Dan Scorer on the challenge of facing in-form Rusthall after disappointing performance against Bearsted

Kennington are looking to bounce back this weekend after suffering a rare bad day.

Ton let their standards slip in a 3-0 home defeat by Bearsted last Saturday, which was just their second loss in 15 league games.

Manager Dan Scorer had no complaints with the result after a disappointing performance at Homelands.

They visit in-form Rusthall tomorrow hoping to put the Bearsted slip-up behind them.

“I was really disappointed with Saturday's performance,” said Scorer, whose side are 13th in the SCEFL Premier Division.

“We've got to a point now in our season where we understand what the expectation is, not just from ourselves but what the demand is for this level.

“Unfortunately we got what we deserved.

“We didn't play with any purpose, we lacked any real intensity, there were no real moments of magic.

“Up until Saturday I think we were one defeat in 14 league games which is a remarkable achievement for the resources we have available to us.

“The players have really bought into what we've tried to do and how we've turned our season around but unfortunately we didn't hit those standards that we've set ourselves.

“I think anyone that's played Bearsted will know they're in a bit of a false position.

“They’re a team with all the right resources to have had a really good season.

“For whatever reason that hasn't happened for them but I still expect them to finish the season strong and probably creep into the top half if they can put points on the board with the games in hand they've got.

“I know they'll be disappointed with what they've done this season but we've played them four times now and they’re comfortably one of the best footballing sides we've played.”

Kennington are light on numbers going into a difficult game away to a Rusthall side whose terrific form has lifted them up to fifth.

Scorer will work with what he has for the run-in, however, but knows the challenge awaiting this weekend.

“The squad is really thin now going into the end of the season,” he said.

“I'm not in a position where I want to start adding three or four players for the last nine games, I'm more than happy to see the season out and stretch the squad as much as we possibly can.

“We're now coming up against a side that are absolutely flying in Rusthall and it's really good to see because I like the way they have set themselves up.

Jim (Anderson, manager) has stuck to his guns, he's been relentless in ensuring they don't lose their identity and it was always a matter of time for them that it was just going to click,

“We got a great result against them earlier in the season, beating them 2-1 at home, and while that was a great performance, I know they would have felt very aggrieved because, again, they've been comfortably one of the best sides we've played this season and, like I say, it was only a matter of time before they hit a bit of form.

“I don't think anyone quite expected them to do as well as they have done but full credit to them and I'd really like to see them hit the play-offs.

“But, at the end of the day, we've still got our own agenda, our own targets and aims that we want to achieve.

“We want to make sure that we're securing our safety as quickly as possible. We're seven points off that 40-point mark which is there or thereabouts for survival.”
