Kennington begin busy spell of cup football with Kent Senior Trophy tie at home to managerless Chislehurst Glebe

Kennington face an unknown quantity when they host managerless Chislehurst Glebe in the Kent Senior Trophy.

The sides meet in a first-round tie at Homelands tonight (7.45pm).

Ton beat the Foxes 2-1 on the opening day of the Southern Counties East Premier Division season but their struggling opponents have since sacked boss Dan Lawrence.

The former Canterbury manager, who only took charge in the summer, was axed after failing to win a league game.

No replacement has been announced, so Kennington are in the dark when it comes to preparations.

“Glebe are going to come at us with a completely new management team and potentially a new-look squad,” said Ton boss Dan Scorer. “So, we have no idea what to expect with that game coming up.”

Kennington had last weekend off, with their home match against Bearsted postponed due to landlords Ashford’s FA Trophy commitments.

It means they play only one league match in October, away to Stansfield on October 25.

Cup games dominate as Ton host Rochester in the FA Vase first round on October 18 and SE Dons in the Challenge Cup second round on October 29.

The lack of league games isn’t ideal, with Ton fifth in the table, but they’re ready to embrace knockout football.

“With teams catching up, we could see ourselves drop into the bottom half of the table,” said Scorer.

“So we’ve just got to make sure we enjoy the cup games we’ve got coming up in October.

“Hopefully we can continue to build a little bit of momentum.

“They’re all very tough games, with Glebe and then two sides at Step 6 in Rochester and SE Dons.

“Rochester are absolutely flying, so we know they’re a side that, in all honesty, would be competing in the top half in our division. That’s going to be an incredibly tough test.

“We played them last year and they beat us in the cup.

“And SE Dons are another side that are building something quite special there.

“We’ve just got to make sure we’re maintaining those standards and expectations that we set ourselves.”
