Ashford United manager Tommy Warrilow has urged his players to make it three wins in a row in Isthmian South East

Ashford United manager Tommy Warrilow has urged his players to consolidate their recent run of form ahead of their match against Three Bridges at Homelands on New Year’s Day.

United, sitting third in Isthmian South East following their 2-1 Boxing Day triumph at Whitstable, will hope to make it three wins in a row against a side they beat 5-0 back in August, although Warrilow remains wary of the threat their opponents will pose.

“After the Hythe and Hastings results and then the game against Whitstable, we’ve got to make sure we don’t throw those games away afterwards,” he said.

“The Whitstable game was a good result – we defended for our lives and it was a big three points to keep the pressure on the pack at the top.

“But we did get a few knocks during it – Jay May for example felt his hamstring, so like I said to the lads we need to get everyone fit for New Year’s Day against Three Bridges, who on their day are another great side.”

Despite having just four substitutes at his disposal during the team’s victory last Thursday, Warrilow insists squad depth isn’t something he is currently concerned about.

However, he said he hoped to make some additions to his Homelands squad that would help solidify the team’s position in the table even further.

“I’m hoping to bring another couple of players in, hopefully before New Year’s Day.

“I don’t know if they’ll be available for then, but it’s about moving forward long-term for the second half of the season.

“We’ve sent Ben Binder to Ramsgate to get some football so we’re even lighter now, but I do have Tashi (Kwayie) on the bench, and Tom O’Connor and Levi Gold too, so we’ve got a huge three there.”

He continued: “The key to any success is keeping a settled side, and we lost a lot of players in the summer, but we’re bringing the impetus in with Bourney (Matt Bourne) and Tariq (Ossai) arriving.

“So if we know there’s a lot more to come and we’re sitting third in the league, then I’m more than happy with that, and if I can get the squad a bit stronger then hopefully we can have a really strong second-half of the season.

“As long as we’re up there by the end of January, I know we’re only going to get more momentum and more consistency in our game.”

Following their fixture on New Year’s Day, United travel to West Sussex to face Burgess Hill on Saturday.
