Ashford para triathlete Henry Urand says his latest world title triumph is another stepping stone towards LA 2028 success.
World No.1 Urand, fourth in the PTS3 category at Paris 2024, won the PTS3 category at the World Triathlon Para Championships in Australia last month - his second after 2024 glory in Torremolinos, Spain.
The World Championships return to Spain in September 2026 in Pontevedra and by the time they arrive the next Paralympics will be less than two years away.
“Being referred to as a double world champion sounds amazing and I am so pleased to have been able to achieve this,” Urand said.
“It has definitely been a byproduct of this year's commitment and training, and I am now determined to get to the next World Championships being held in Pontevedra, Spain in September to re-defend my title, as we build for success in LA 2028.”
Urand, 23, dominated the PTS3 category Down Under, finishing more than two minutes ahead of the competition to retain his crown.
Born with cerebral palsy, Urand started his out as a cyclist and transitioned to triathlon in March 2023. The former Norton Knatchbull student is studying and training at Loughborough University but continues to make use of his favourite cycling routes around Ashford when he is back visiting his family.
“After winning last year it felt like a bit of a fluke, but I am here to stay,” he added. “I'd really like to thank everyone who has supported me to be able to live my dream.”
