Man seriously injured in attack in Beckenham fighting for life as Met Police make arrest

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after suffering serious head injuries following a suspected assault.

Police have arrested a man following the attack in Beckenham in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Met Police detectives issued an appeal for witnesses and a 26-year-old attended a police station in south London yesterday morning.

He was then arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and has been bailed to return to the police station next month under further investigation.

The victim, a 42-year-old man, was hurt in High Street, Beckenham and when police arrived shortly after 1.22am on Sunday, found him with a serious head injury.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital.

A police spokesman said the man is in a critical condition and his next of kin have been informed.

Officers say they are still keen to speak to any witnesses who might have vital information about the incident.
