Thousands of cannisters of laughing gas and cannabis-infused gummy bears found in Bromley

It certainly wasn't the happy world of Haribo for one suspected drug dealer after THC-laced gummy bears and thousands of cannisters of laughing gas were seized by police.

THC, or Tetrahydrocannabinol, is the principle psychoactive substance found in cannabis and bottles of it were also found after officers spotted a man acting suspiciously in Bromley.

As patrols drove past him at 7.15pm on Monday, the suspect appeared to slide down and hide in the seat of his car - a tell-tale sign something untoward was going on.

The resultant search uncovered 1,200 canisters of nitrous oxide and balloons in the boot. Nitrous oxide is dubbed laughing gas and is a popular rave drug - it is inhaled through balloons.

Additionally, £1,000 in cash was found in a bag along with bottles of THC products and the sweets.

The man, aged in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class B drug and psychoactive substances and possession of criminal property.

Officers later conducted a search of a house linked to him, uncovering 48,000 nitrous oxide canisters, which have an estimated street value of £30,000; 200 packets of THC-infused edibles; 116 bottles of THC liquid; 70 pre-rolled cannabis joints; and £1,800 in cash.

The man was taken to a south London police station and later released on bail pending forensic reports on the seized items.

Chief superintendent Karen Findlay, said: “This is a fantastic result from the proactive stop and search, and an application of good policing skills.

“The quantity of Class B drugs, and especially the psychoactive substances, that have been found and taken off the streets as a direct result of this stop and search during TSG activity, is substantial.

“If it wasn’t for these officers being out patrolling and switched on to identify the subtle suspicious behaviour of the suspect, it is likely these prohibited items would have been traded on the streets of London.

“This is about reducing drug supply in our communities and doing all we can to keep Londoners safe.”
