Man suffers life-changing injuries after hammer attack in Erith town centre

A man has been left with life-changing injuries after reportedly being attacked with a hammer.

Police were called to an address in Pier Road in Erith at 5.15pm yesterday following reports of an assault.

Officers arrived to find a 39-year-old man with a head injury.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital where his injuries have been assessed as non life-threatening but life-changing.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 5.22pm yesterday to reports of an assault on Erith High Street.

"We sent an ambulance crew and a medic in a car. A man was treated at the scene and taken to a major trauma centre as a priority."

A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

He has been taken into custody and police say inquiries are ongoing.
