A2 reopens after crash near Canterbury

A man has been seriously injured after a crash which closed the A2 for miles.

The air ambulance was called to the scene of the accident just before the A28 at Wincheap.

A man was left trapped in a vehicle following the crash at around 9.45am, which is reported to have involved a 4x4 and a van.

An air ambulance report says he taken by road to Ashford's William Harvey Hospital with head, chest, neck and stomach injuries.

A four-mile stretch of the road was shut on both sides of the dual carriageway, sparking long queues.

The coast-bound carriageway reopened shortly after the air ambulance took off, but one lane of the London-bound side remained closed until around 12.30pm.

Drivers were diverted through Canterbury while emergency crews dealt with the incident.
