Lord of the Rings star Orlando Bloom is to be honoured on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The Canterbury-born actor will join Matthew Mcconaughey and pop star Katy Perry among the celebrities to be given a star on the famous streets of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street in California next year.

A patron of the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury, Bloom is also famous for roles in Pirates of the Caribbean and the two forthcoming instalments of the Hobbit trilogy.

Also among the inductees for 2014 will be Sally Field, Liam Neeson, Jessica Lange, Kaley Cuoco, Claire Danes and Cheryl Hines, rockers Jeff Lynne and Rick Springfield and posthumously rapper Tupac Shakur and comedian Phil Hartman.

Jennifer Lopez fought back tears as she was unveiled as the 2,500th star this week.

About 20 names are added to the famous walk each year, which is run by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

Walk of Fame selection committee chairman David Green said: “We have a great mix of celebrities and industry executives who have made Hollywood what it is today – one of the greatest entertainment destinations in the world.

“The new selections will bring great joy and fond memories for those millions who visit Hollywood each year.”
