POLICE in Canterbury say the death of a man found floating in the River Stour at Kingsmead is not suspicious. A member of the public made the gruesome discovery near Sainsbury’s at 9.30am on Sunday.

Firemen from Whitstable attended and recovered the body of a 42-year-old local man who was declared dead at the scene. A post mortem is due to be carried out on Wednesday.

Next of kin have been informed but the man has not been formally identified.
