Bomb disposal teams at Wickhambreaux Primary School

By Anna MacSwan

Bomb disposal experts were called to a primary school after the discovery of ammunition and a fuse.

The Ministry of Defence team were sent to Wickhambreaux, near Canterbury, after the materials were found by builders on the site.

It is understood they date back to one of the world wars.

Construction workers downed tools and no one except the disposal team was allowed near the discovery site for more than an hour.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called to a report of an unexploded bomb uncovered at a building site in The Street, Wickhambreaux, at 11.21am.

"Officers are attending the scene and have notified the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from the Ministry of Defence."
