Bomb squad descend on Stelling Minnis sparking Stone Street closure

A bomb squad has descended on a remote property this morning sparking the closure of a major route.

Police raided a home near the village of Stelling Minnis, between Hythe and Canterbury, at about 8am in a bid to smash a suspected drugs syndicate.

During a subsequent search of the property, suspicious items were discovered, which were later removed by the MOD's Explosive Ordnance Disposal team.

The B2068 Stone Street was closed near the junction with Misling Lane between 8.30am and 9.45am.

Six people have been arrested in relation to the investigation.

A spokesman police: “Kent Police carried out a warrant at an address near Stelling Minnis, on Wednesday, March 12, as part of an ongoing investigation into drug supply.

“A number of items were seized, including around 280 cannabis plants, suspected cocaine and mobile phones.

“Suspicious items found during the search were removed by the MOD's Explosive Ordnance Disposal team and were later found to pose no risk to the public.

“Six people were arrested as part of the investigation and have since been bailed pending further enquiries.”
