James Wilkinson, from Chartham Hatch, shaves head to support cousin Josh, who has cancer

A 10-year-old boy has volunteered to shave his head so his cousin will not be bald alone during his cancer treatment.

Big-hearted James Wilkinson, from Chartham Hatch, will lose his locks to raise money for CLIC Sargent, which is supporting 11-year-old Josh Wilkinson and his family.

Josh has lost his hair during chemotherapy so James has decided to have his cut off to show solidarity.

He had hoped to raise £750 for the children's cancer charity, but has already collected more than £1,200 through a Just Giving appeal page. James, who goes to Hernhill School, will be having the chop at the Toni and Guy salon in Canterbury on Tuesday, April 5.

His mum Fiona said: "James and Josh are very close and he was very upset when we told him that Josh has cancer because his grandfather had it. It was his idea to support his cousin by having his hair cut so Josh wouldn’t feel alone.

"We are hoping Josh will be well enough to be there when James has the chop next month.

"We’ve informed his school, who are very supportive.

"His charity page has already exceeded expectations and we would like to thank everyone for their support.

"It’s been a huge shock for the family and CLIC Sargent is a great cause and does an amazing job."

Josh, who lives in Egerton and has a twin brother Ben, has just started his treatment, which is expected to last six months.
