Man in loft arrested on suspicion of burglary in Chaucer Road, Canterbury

A suspected burglar has been arrested after being found in the loft of a flooded house after neighbours heard loud banging.

The alarm was raised by a neighbour in Chaucer Road, Canterbury at 2.30am on Sunday.

After searching the property, police found the man in the loft with a bag containing screwdrivers, spanners and a hacksaw.

Significant damage had been caused to copper piping, leaving the ground floor of the house flooded.

A 36-year-old from Herne Bay was arrested on suspicion of burglary and has been released on bail until Sunday, September 16.

Nothing was reported to have been stolen.
