A busy route was blocked in both directions after a serious crash involving a car and a motorbike.

The A257 was shut near Wingham Country Market in Shatterling, near Canterbury.

Emergency services were on the scene, advised drivers to avoid the area.

Traffic information site Inrix reported queuing traffic due to the accident, which happened at about 8.30am.

It adds that a motorcycle and a car were involved.

The road reopened shortly before 4pm.

A police spokesman said: “We are currently at the scene of a collision on the A257 at Shatterling, between Wingham and Ash.

“The road is closed while the incident is being responded to and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes where possible.”
