'Canterbury Cannibal' Dale Bolinger moved to psychiatric hospital in Nebraska

A notorious sex offender dubbed 'the Canterbury Cannibal' has been moved to a psychiatric treatment centre in the US - home to more than 100 sex offenders seeking treatment.

Dale Bolinger, 62, was convicted four years ago of plotting to rape, decapitate and eat a 14-year-old girl.

The former nurse, who used to live in Davidson Road, was jailed for nine years after the court heard the American-born father-of-two bought an axe the day before he was due to meet the teenager at Ashford International station, but she did not show.

Following his early release last year, he then moved to the US where he moved in with friends in Blair in Nebraska.

But after residents got wind of his presence, he was taken into custody at Washington County jail - although it did not appear he had been charged with any new offence. Suggestions were the move was for his own safety amid fears of a vigilante attacks.

Now it has emerged he has been moved to Norfolk Regional Centre in the US state.

It describes itself as a 120-bed 'sex offender treatment centre' which provides the first of a three phase treatment programme used in Nebraska.

He was moved to the centre last Thursday, according to reports in the US.

In a statement, Washington County Attorney Scott Vander Schaaf said: "The State of Nebraska and Washington County will continue to monitor Mr. Bolinger to ensure that local residents remain safe and secure.”
