Police and fire brigade called to reports of two people climbing Canterbury Cathedral scaffolding

Emergency services were called out after reports of two people climbing scaffolding at Canterbury Cathedral.

But Kent Police and Kent Fire and Rescue Service say that when they arrived nobody was found.

They were called at exactly 8.58pm on Friday after being told that two males were at the top of the west tower.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police were called to reports of people believed to have climbed on scaffolding at Canterbury Cathedral.

"A search of the area was carried out but no persons were located on the scaffolding."

A KFRS spokesman said: "KFRS were called to reports of of two males at the top of the west tower. Following a thorough search, in conjunction with police and on-site security, no one was found to be on the tower."
